Team B - Experiences of the Project

1. What are your experiences of the project? What are the conclusions your team arrived at after the project? Provide suggestions, if any, to improve the reading habit and library usage of students.

This was the first time any one of our team worked in a real project. The experience was very good as we have got opportunity to do so many new things and learn many softwares.
76% of the students we surveyed said that they enjoy reading. It was interesting to see 34% of the students read 3 books a week on an average. It was clear that though the students did not read magazines and newspapers, they read books. We were happy to see our favourite authored topped in our survey too. We came to the conclusion that reading habit is not dying. We are of the opinion that the students must be motivated to read. We must get more and more books and there must be some free time for reading books. Number of competitions on library and reading should be more. As we have got this year next year too the prizes should be coupons for books.

2. What impact did this project have on your team? What did you learn by participating in this project?
Now we know all the members of our team more. Our discussions mainly was on the books we like to read and our favourite characters and so on. Sayooj is the IT expert in our team and he shown us how he created book trailer and animation. He also helped a lot in doing all the work. We learned so many softwares. We know excel and powerpoint and used it before. But we have never used it like this. Sorting, filtering, creating charts etc were new to all of us. The other software Irfanview is very small but really good in image copying and saving. These will help us in preparing our subject presentations in an attractive manner in the next year.
Sayooj and Silga used to post book reviews on the readers club blog. But others learned to work on Blogger now only.

4. How well did you work as a team? How did it help to develop your cooperation and collaboration as a team?
As we said above, Sayooj helped us in learning many new tricks on computers. We all did our part in the project well. Pranesh helped the Interview team to record the conversations. Silga and Sreenath mainly entrusted with collection of responses and entereing it on the software.

5. List out the tasks your team completed in the project. What resources/IT tools did you use during the project?
We surveyed 38 students from different schools. We also entered data of some other responses collection by our readers club members. We did the analysis in Excel and prepared our report as a power point presentation. Sir taught us how to share the presentations on the blog using slideshare.net. Sayooj created an account in it and uploaded our ppt and posted in on our blog here.
We used excel, Microsoft Word and Powerpoint for creating the presentation. We also used blogs and slideshare.

We would like to thank our librarian sir for giving us this opportunity. We also thank our Principal madam and Rugmini madam for motivating us to do this project.

Experiences - Team C

What are your experiences of the project? What are the conclusions your team arrived at after the project? Provide suggestions, if any, to improve the reading habit and library usage of students.

All of us enjoyed working on this project. It was really an enjoyable experience conducting surveys. Our team leader Surya led the team who visited and interviewed the bookshops and Librarian of Public Library and shared his experiences with us. Working as a team, we could know each other better.

The one shocking result we found out during the course of our survey was that most of the teachers thought the reading habit is drastically declining. But what we got from our survey of students was just the opposite.  Almost all the students were of the unanimous opinion that they enjoyed reading.
We could also see the improvement in our school due the variety of activities and programmes introduced in this academic session.
The best way to promote reading is to provide an environment for reading in the school. The Reading Achievement Certificates and library point system for our reading activities is also very good. We think instead always telling reading habit is declining, the teachers and parents should tell us that there is an improvement which seems to be the fact.

What impact did this project have on your team? What did you learn by participating in this project?

First, we learnt to work as a team. The different views by the team members was not acceptable initially, but we learned to adjust and understand each others views.
The usefulness of Microsoft Excel in doing the analysis was new and surprising. The methods of survey and how to find out things in an easier was something interesting. Meeting with other school students and getting to know what they like to read and all was very nice.
We learnt so many things. The small programme, Irfanview for taking screenshots of anything was amazing. The power of MS Excel and Powerpoint was also new to us. Creating online survey was also new.

How well did you work as a team? How did it help to develop your cooperation and collaboration as a team? What are limitations.

Surya was out team leader who told us how to do things. We were required to submit the responses to him and all of us worked on entering the collected answers on the computer. Gayathri, Rasul and Annie did most of the survey collection and they did a lot in data entry also.
Sanjay and Surya did the analysis and preparation of the report as they were familiar with computers. Rasul also helped in doing the presentation part. Gayathri was very much interested but at the end she was unable to do the analysis and all because she has to prepare for her 10th exams.
We faced problems in doing things after the school hours. Surya, our team leader, did not have access to Internet so he used to go cafe to get in touch with others. Another problem was lack of time. We had practice tests and classworks to attend to making it difficult to do extra work like this.

List out the tasks your team completed in the project. What resources/IT tools did you use during the project?

We collected responses from 23 students from other schools. We also helped our school students in completing the survey. Surya participated in the interview of bookshops. We all did the entering of answers to the program.
The IT tools used are:
Gmail, Google Drive, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Blogger, Irfanview and LimeSurvey.
We need to learn a lot more. Now only we realised so many things can be done with the softwares.

WHAT AN EXPERIENCE !!!!!!!!!!!!

It was my first experience of going out to some interview someone. We have prepared our questions before hand, but asked more questions as the response from all were really encouraging. I have never realised that interviewing somebody is not very easy task.

Our team included myself, our transcripter Praanesh,Vishnu,Nirupam,Vineeth-who was our photographer and our guide cum librarian Mr.Mujib Rahman accompanied us to Palakkad. We first visited  AA Book stall and lending library and interviewed the manager of the stall namely Mr.Khaja Moideen who very truly and patiently answered to our questions. First I introduced our team and from where  were coming. Then Nirupam and Vishnu took up the interview and  asked many questions related with the topic.I took up the role of a introducer as I thought that I can give a nice and energetic start to the team. Praanesh noted all points said by  manager of the bookshops. After taking the interview we went through almost every books available in the shops.

It was truly a memorable incident.Since it was my first interview I little bit got tensed and scared on thinking how i would present it.But finally it came good. Through these exercises we really learned how to communicate with others. With each interview our confidence increased.

Through this project work, we learned many things. After collecting the surveys from students our team entered it on the computer and analysed the data. We used Excel application to create the graphs and charts required.

I would like to convey my thanks to the managers of the book stall, our Principal madam and our librarian Mr.Mujib Rahman.

Posting a Post just Like that

Posting a post just like that in any blog is not in my list of hobbies. But since this particular blog has been opened, it seems like I can type whatever I want...( of course about Reading). So today I logged into this site and now I am going to write about my views on books and our library.
I have always liked fantasies from my childhood. Now I am a die hard fan of The Harry Potter series, Percy Jackson series, Fable haven series etc. Recently we the students of class IX B had participated in the Hindu Story board competition. The experience gained from it too has increased this fascination of mine towards fantasies.
Now coming into our library.........its inexplicable.
It has a wide variety of books and students are free to take home any book of their choice. Mujib sir is really particular about the discipline in the library. Better try not to anger him. Our library website is also really nice. You can find anything about the library in it. The present reading project which we have undertaken will come out successful  only when you guys take active part in library activities.......So come take Part,..................love the library.......

- Nothing to everything- the reading project

"No sir...its time consuming....exams are approaching .........I won't be able to do it" I remember having told Mujib sir when he briefed me about this project. But alas!!!! I hadn't known at that time that it would be this interesting.
We started our work by surveying and interviewing students and teachers. Nothing seemed to be tough as we had a great deal of cooperation from librarian sir. Shwetha Sasidharan and I had been the coordinators of this project- and we knew nothing in Information Technology - but as I've mentioned in the title, it turned from nothing to everything (though not completely everything).
Everyday after reaching the school, we would rush to the library for work. It was one such day that we had to interview our Principal madam. We were really scared. I can say that this is what most of you would expect. But we were not. We were totally cool as Principal madam is really a friendly person. She answered all our questions with enthusiasm. I really enjoyed every bit of it except for the times when computers really posed problems( even that was because of my mistake- not to blame the poor thing).
Analysing the results of the survey gave us unexpected results from the most unexpected persons. It was fun to explore the hearts of the respondents. Posting reviews on the blog is one thing that I love the most. For that I had to read books.  This reading project came out successful due to many competitions conducted in our library and also due to the system of library points that Mujib sir has introduced in our library. There is a kind of magnetic attraction in the library and all children are drawn towards it.
I loved being a part of this project and I hope I'll have more opportunities to take part in other Readers club activities.........
