Reading topped (26%) the list of preferred leisure activities with television as second (22%) and majority indicated they will read anytime. The time spent on reading, the issue of books from the library etc. show that the reading habit is not declining among the students
Internet is the main source for information for majority (28%) closely followed by Libraries.
School libraries needs to improve to meet the expectations of the students.
Overall the number of books read by students is very good.
Jokes/humour, comics, art/crafts, general knowledge books topped the preferred category of books in most cases.
The students mostly read sports section of the newspapers and most students got newspaper subscription at home
GK/Fact books are the most consulted reference books in the library

What is to be done to improve the Reading Habit?

Encourage the students to read more.
The interests of students to be taken into consideration for getting books for the library.
Libraries need to be very attractive and comfortable.
Reading competitions and activities to be conducted.
The system of bookstore gift coupons as prizes followed by our school is good for promoting book reading.
School library is the main source for getting books for us, so school library should have large number of books by good authors.
More copies of our favourite books should be there.
Magazine and newspaper reading is to be promoted by making the students read them daily.
Include reading as a criteria for CCE in all classes.
