MY EXPERIENCE OF THE SURVEY

It is one of my best experiences in my life.
I Praanesh,Surya,Nirupam ,Vineeth and Vishnu along with our librarian Mr Mujib Rahiman went to some of the best book stalls in Palakkad. The interview was arranged by Librarian sir before hand so they were expecting us.
We first went to the A.A book stall and lending library. I used to visit this bookstore along with my parents. The Manager, told us that the sale of books is good and he is getting more number of members to the lending library every year. We spent some time interacting with him and the staff there. They had a good number of books.
After that we went to the H&C Publishers. They are leading textbook sellers in Palakkad. Mr. Hari informed us that the book shop is not only meant as a profitable business, but they are in the business as a social service too. I have never thought of it as a social service before. His comments really made me think about that aspect.
Our next visit was to the Current Books, a branch of DC Books - the number one publishers in Kerala. The manager Mr. Ramachandran so energetically stressed that reading is not dying or never die. He asked why there are so many bookshops if the reading habit decreased and people are not buying books. He answered to our question about the sale of books that they get more sale every year and the response in their school book fairs is always very good.
Finally we went to the public library. There we found so many people reading books. The librarian was Ms. Latha L and she was very keen to answer our questions. She made many suggestions to increase reading habit among students. There are about 1 lakh books in the library. Getting membership is also simple. We are surprised to see the large collection of books in English, Hindi and Malayalam there. It was established in 1956 or so. She also strongly opposed that the reading habit is decreasing among students. She told that more than 50% of their members are students who are regularly visit. Mainly children come to the library to refer books.
We enjoyed the experience very much.We learnt many things about reading habit of students. It was a very useful survey. We were encouraged to read more and we decided to do everything possible to motivate our friends to read.
My duty was to note down the answers given by them. I took the job seriously. It was quite difficult to keep pace with the dialogues. But I was sure Vineeth will get the dialogues recorded for our reference later.
I also learned to analyse the data collected through our survey. Our team of surveyers (Sayooj, Abhishek and Anajana) collected 39 responses. The task of analysing was difficult. Sir helped us in analysing the data using MS Excel and we have also entered the data in to the serve through Intranet for the complete final analysis.
It was fun to learn the methods for survey anaylsis and to create PowerPoint Presentation. I have learnt about many softwares and websites which helps in getting things done  efficiently. We got familiarised with blogs and it was fun to post book reviews online and to see our names on the Internet.
Thanks to our principal madam for here encouragement and support. Thanks to Librarian sir for taking me as a member of this elite team.
